Community Greenhouse

The Creston Community Greenhouses are located at the College of the Rockies Creston Campus.

There are two large heated houses, a potting lab, a classroom, a cold frame and outdoor gardens, including a physic garden.

This is an ideal environment to grow food, start your bedding plants, and learn more about growing while enjoying the social environment. Community users come from all walks of life and from different groups: seniors, children, small producers, gardeners, and folks who want to grow their own food and enjoy the greenhouse atmosphere.

For $25 you receive half a bench of space, soil and pots, and workers to ensure your plants are watered in between your visits. We ask that you plant an extra flat to share with those less fortunate. Extra produce is donated to the food bank and the TAPS program, and plant sales are held in the spring as a fundraiser.

In 2008, February 5th, we will be open for people to start their spring seeds.

Community Gardens

Creston's Community Gardens are located on 11th Avenue North.

What used to be a parking lot is now a beautiful garden spot that was created in 2002, made possible with the help of many volunteers and local businesses.

The 29 vegetable beds are made of logs and are raised for easy access.

The garden provides people who would otherwise not have access to a garden a place to grow. The fee is $10.00 per year for a 5 x 16' plot, with the responsibility of care left to the users.

It is also a beautiful place to visit as it boasts a great variety of flowers and shrubs. A lovely gazebo sits in the centre of the garden to offer a shady place to sit and visit.

Much of what is produced is given to the Food Bank and there is a large basket marked “free” that is usually filled with food for passers by. Bouquets of flowers are picked on a regular basis and given to people who can not leave their home.

The Community Gardens are a lovely stop for anyone wandering around the town on a warm afternoon.
